“Officially” one of the biggest South Island regions, we will subdivide it to make it easy. Christchurch is the starting point of all 100% South Island trips. Its British influence shows throughout its parks, Victorian buildings, university and cathedral. No doubt about it, you are in a Commonwealth country. Plenty of activities on offer for all ages and nice accommodation options make it an interesting stop. Christchurch’s population is spoilt for outdoor activities within two hours from the city centre: beaches, whale and dolphin watch, French atmosphere in Akaroa; a small ski resort, hot springs and well-being in Hanmer Springs; larger ski areas around Methven through the beautiful Inland Scenic Road.
