Coromandel

Here’s the competition! It takes two to three hour drive from the big city to see this brand new scenery open up before your eyes: the West Coast is as scenic as the road is winding, but beaches are much more impressive on the Eastern side. From Whitianga to Katikati, the most beautiful beaches line up in succession and local tramping tracks aren’t bad either for those bush addicts. Waihi is a nice spot to settle and spend at least 3 days. The beach is not far, Martha Gold Mine has a great story to tell and you can easily visit North Coromandel on a day tour.
