Taupo - Tongariro
This is the second double stop in the North Island for classic tours.
Lake Taupo is renowned for its adrenalin tourism, just like Queenstown is its Southern counterpart. Geothermal addicts absolutely must see “Hidden Valley” also called "Orakei Korako", it is off the beaten track. We recommend the volcanic Centre as a family attraction, followed by a lunch break at the Shrimp Farm. We’re not too keen on advertising polluting stuff, but jet boating on Huka Falls will deliver the fun factor for grownups.
Tongariro National Park has three totally different volcanoes lined up next to each other, which is simply breathtaking. Mt Ruapehu is still active and actively recommended. A flyover by plane, which we highly recommend, will confirm that its turquoise crater lake is still smoking. The slopes of Tongariro also host three ski resorts during the winter season, with Ohakune as the main après-ski centre.
